Matariki

Last week on wednesday we had to do a performance and do some art work for matariki and it was a very good experience. All the class room had to do matariki art work and it was amazing

Next we are going to talk about what we did to prepare for the matariki arts and craft ok so we are going to start off with the stars, for the stars we had used paper for the stars and we had to cut out the paper and then put it into shapers.

After we were done making the stars it looked like it was 3d paper stars and it looked amazing. Next we had to write facts about the stars. For example we had to pick one star and then write facts about it and then paint it.

Now that we were done with the stars we did the marae for the marae we need 6 or 8 sticks my teacher Mrs Tamlyn had found sticks at the back of our school garage and there was some nails but there wasn’t that much nails so we were ok next we had to paint it red and the designs on it was white and we need to put some glue on and at first it looked like a mess but then at the end it had turn out wonderful and amazing. Now we did the trees the easy way; we just had to cut out a tree and then colour it.

Then we had to put it all together and then display it so we went to the hall and picked our spot to put our matariki art so then we had put our marae on and then Mrs Tamlyn had put some lights on and then BOOM!! We were done with the matariki art.

Finally we had a hangi. Our food was Chicken, pumpkin, kumara and  Mainaise. When I was eating the food my most favourite part of the food was the Chicken and Mainaise.

When I went to the hall and saw all the matariki art It looked wonderful, amazing and Incredible.

Racism

Introduction:

What is racism? Racism is a discrinuination which means coloured people are treated differently to white people. Racism is also white people being biassed and prejudiced. Racism is shown by words, attitudes and actions. It is important to learn about racism so we can help stop racism to prevent unkind words and actions towards  people of colour, In this case African Americans.

People of colour are still treated unequally. They faced discrimination white people were biased against them. Racism is  dangerous because it can make you feel unsafe and offend you. George Floyd is an example of someone who faced racism. He went to a store and bought some Cigarettes but two employees went to George Floyd’s car and demanded back the cigarettes. The employees called the police, and gave a biassed account about Floyd. The action the cops took against Floyd led him to being killed. Through the media, the scene was portrayed as a reflection of racism.George Floyd faced discrimination because of his skin colour

George Floyd’s death was traumatic. The cause of his death was due to a cop Derek Chauvin applying pressure on his neck, with his knee. This caused an uproar among many people around the world. Floyds death was an example of racism inflicted on the black community.  George Floyd was a catalyst that started the black lives matter kaupapa. .

Many Americans in the United States protested against racism, and supported an organisation called black lives matter. This is important to me because I believe people, or people of colour should be treated equally, regardless of skin colour.

Rosa Parks is an important person who also faced racism. She sat in the front of the bus in a white section, and when she asked to go to the back she refused. The bus driver was being racist because of her skin colour, and called the cops. She was arrested in 1955 because she refused to give up her seat. The actions taken against her were dicriminatio, and prejudice.

Rosa parks was a reflection of hope. Many people believed that they can also stand up for their rights. And many protests began in the 19th century for the black civil rights.

I believe that it is important to teach people racism because it will help to stop racism. If we teach the history of racism to people, by showing the action taken against African Americns. Then they would help to encourage people around the world to treat everyone equally. Especially people of colour.

Racism means people being treated unfairly because of their cultures and their skin colour. We can help prevent racism by being kind to each other, and treating each other equally, because we are all humans. The END.
